Definitions

"Aegis" means: Thornatt Pty Ltd trading as Aegis Security

"Client" means: The person or company to who we have sold or

installing or monitoring or servicing their alarm system.

"Goods" means: The items we are installing or repairing or replacing

Your rights

• When you buy a new product, with a manufacturer's warranty or not, you automatically have an implied warranty. That is your basic right that the product works, that it is fit for its purpose and is of a quality that is reasonable for the price. If not, the seller should arrange for repairs or exchange. Or if the product is inherently faulty and problems recur, you should be entitled to a refund.

• A written warranty means the seller or manufacturer volunteers to give you extra help providing parts and labour, usually for 1-3 years.

The main points

• That the product works;

• That it is fit for the purpose;

• Is of a quality that is reasonable for the price.

At Aegis Security we supply & sell the DAS range of alarm equipment. We also will supply NESS, Ademco, EDM and maybe 1 or 2 other major or well known brands, if the client requests and or if that particular panel best suits the needs of the client.  We will NOT sell or supply some cheap, just fallen off the back of a container ship alarm system.   If you want cheap, go somewhere else.

In the main we supply and sell DAS.  Why?  Because we know it works.  Why? because we have 1 in our office and in our home.  We have been installing DAS alarms now for several years as our preferred brand and have had no real issues with the equipment. If we do, we know the supplier will help.

Secondly, DAS is fit for the purpose of monitoring alarms systems and reporting to central stations.  Perfectly good at a local alarm or dialler or securitel alarm configeration.   It is also USER FRIENDLY.  To arm the system, press a BUTTON. How easy is that!  To turn off, press your 4 digit code. No other buttons needed or hit the arm or disarm on a keyfob.  Too easy.  Allows a partial seal if reed & glass break detectors are available.  DAS is a good alround unit.

Thirdly, it is reasonably priced.  We can supply a more expensive unit but I don't know why would want one?  It isn't cheap, but it is inexpensive in terms of what it can do and what it provides.

Action always speaks louder than words - see below for the true story of where we have acted on a warranty issue, I might add, our only 1 to date in 9 years!

Warranty

Alarm Equipment

Aegis Security is not a manufacturer of the equipment and will so far as it is able to assign the benefit of any manufacturers warranty to the client.

Alarm install workmanship

Not withstanding the manufacturers warranty, the Aegis Security warranty for workmanship shall be for a period of twelve months starting from the date of the installation is completed.

All warranty and service calls will be carried out between the hours of 08:00 and 17:00 hours Monday to Friday excluding Public Holidays.

Any service calls outside these hours will be charged for at the appropriate penalty rates.

Ownership of & access to Goods

The goods remain the property of Aegis Security, until Aegis Security receives full payment for them. In the case of payment by cheque, title does not pass until the cheque has cleared.

Even though ownership of the goods remains with Aegis Security until payment, the client is responsible for the goods from the time they are delivered.

The client hereby grants Aegis Security an irrevocable licence to enter the premises in which the goods are installed for the purpose of Aegis Security excercising its ownership rights to the goods. This licence lapses when payment is made in full for the goods.

Payment

The client will make payment in full without deduction or withholding upon delivery of the goods or when Aegis Security advises that the installation is complete, whichever is the later.

Limit of Liability

The liability of Aegis Security and any installer orgaised by it for the installation of goods is limited to the value of the goods and the cost of the original installation. Aegis Security and the installer (if any) may at their option replace goods found to be faulty, rectify the installation or refund monies paid.

Aegis Security and the installer (if any) are not liable for any consequential loss which the client may suffer.

Our first Warranty Claim

In fact, officially it was never a warranty claim by our client but we made it such because we knew it was the workmanship of our original tech at fault.

Situation:

Our client moved from his home we were monitoring to a new abode in post code 3136.  He chose Aegis Security to install a new DAS system into his new home and have us monitor the system as previously.

We used a technican who was more electrician than alarm tech, but seemed quite reasonable in his work.  

Unfortunately on this occassion he let us including the client down and did not complete the work that he had advised us that had been completed and paid for.

We sent another to finish off the work, all seemed ok.  The occassional false alarm, about 2. Not bad, not good, but not bad.

Anyway after a while the client then went away for several months and left there alarm system on.  The false alarms started.   One a week or so then progressively getting worse.

Action:

With clients permission was able to access their home and check all sensors for visable signs of trouble or spiders over the sensors or heat as this was over 2005 christmas period and temperatures quite warm outside.  Ran several tests with temp gauge, nothing, the house was quite cool considering the outside temps and that is was locked up.

Other action: 1)To stop annoying the neighbours we disabled the outside siren box.  2) we set the strobe to only flash for 60 minutes on each activation.  Nothing gives away the fact someone is not home but by the continual flashing of a strobe.  3) all calls for alarms at the premises routed to Aegis Security direct rather than annoy the client in the middle of the night. If necessary, patrols sent around at our expense.

After a discussion with the client and our technical people we resolved to:

1) replace the 3 out of 4 sensors with even better quality, Quad Element sensors at our cost. 

2) check and rewire the sensors if necessary.  In end 3 out of the 4 wires were replaced.  In part because of the faulty original installation allowing damage to the wires or possible damage by rats in roof. Not sure, but replaced anyway.

Result:

Client now has a beautifully functioning alarm system that has not false triggered since we fixed it!   And, quite frankly, as it should be.

3 new higher quality sensors installed

3 sensors completely rewired from sensor to alarm box.

Total cost to client: $0.00

Cost to Aegis Security $XXX.00 considerable

Value to Aegis Security - one longterm client now happy again.

One alarm installer no longer working for Aegis Security.
