Security Guard’s Son to be Supported Until He Reaches 20

The Alannah & Madeline Foundation has pledged to support the infant son of murdered security guard Jason Gully until he reaches 20 years of age.

The Foundation, established in honour of two little girls who lost their lives at the Port Arthur Tragedy, assists children who are victims of violence, or who have suffered the sudden loss of a family member.

The Alannah & Madeline Foundation chief executive officer Andrew Chappell said the Foundation would offer Mr Gully’s widow practical assistance with the rearing of their six-month-old son Lae.

“Lae’s tragic loss of his father resonates with our core mission to help children who have experienced the sudden loss of a family member, “ Mr Chappell said.

“Therefore, we would like to offer our help, whether it be money for schools books and uniforms or the provision of bedroom furniture.”

Mr Chappell said in keeping with the Foundation’s policy, Lae would be supported until he reached 20 years of age.

“Whilst the Alannah and Madeline Foundation provides immediate support we also take a longer term approach, assisting all our children until they reach adulthood,” he added.

This support of the Gully family is in addition to the Appeal which is being run by the Foundation.

People across Victoria have been in contact with The Alannah & Madeline Foundation to donate money for Mrs Gully and Lae. To date, the appeal has raised more than $13,000.

He said "Derrick's bravery cost him his life, and all Americans honor him... ...Although he was unarmed, Derrick ignored the pleas of a colleague to run for his life... ...by engaging the assailant; he bought vital time for a fellow security guard to rush a group of students to safety."
